Desecrated Earth is better if you plan on using both effects at once.

The funny thing is that Pain is a terribly beautiful small effect, and Suffering isn't really over-cost anymore: modern land destruction tends to cost 4 with an ability or 1CC, often with some sort of drawback. If you're playing it for just one side... don't. Use Stone Rain or Raven's Crime instead. If, however, you can take advantage of either form of disruption, there is nothing wrong with this card.

@Necrolysis It's not right to say its better, the two do different things. Desecrated Earth will get you card advantage, which is nice, but this can be dropped first turn for discard. Remember, you CANNOT cast both halves of a double card at once.

People who keep pointing out that there are better cards for either half are missing the point; being able to do either from one card is the advantage. Neither half on it's own should be a top tier card.

I would say this is a mediocre card only because discard and land destruction aren't things every deck needs. truthfully I don't think I have seen a deck that does a lot of both. If your deck DOES do both, then this is a great addition I suppose.

It is a 1-for-1 both ways. Plus some decks really suffering when hit with Suffering (pun intended).
