its like a Blaze and a creature in one. Though its a lot harder to stop a blaze from hitting than it is to stop a creature from using its activatable abilitys (Example: almost any destroy creature effects on the turn it comes into play).

well see this card is nice because while it is a blaze on a stick for a little too much ,mana, it's ability is at instant speed so its a good way to dump mana from, say, braid of fire

I like this dude as a one of in my 5 color elementals deck. He's great late game when you can reliably tap out to pump him to around 5-6 damage, and then you get him back with the 'Lark or Horde of Notions.

Good point, more fragile but more recurrable than Blaze, 4 for a 2/2 is always kind of tough to pay but a 1/3 would have been too big an ask in red.
