i actually kinda like this card...not the best by any means but hey, decent toughness for blocking, it flies for a few extra damage, and it can take out an opponents spell, or at least make them wait to play anything until they got the mana they need.
There's better alternatives, but meh, its useable

Good multiplayer card. Decent blocker, and helps to draw attention away from yourself. Otherwise, reasonable enough to stick in an artifact control deck.

I like him a lot. Play him with Aether Vial, Skeleton Shard and Myr Retriever. And have some equipment down he can play with when in play.

Always liked this card. Good defender, and the counter is a good suprise later in the game if the opponent forgets about it.

It's interesting; look at the comments on the Mirrodin printing of this card, they're all quite positive. By contrast, most of the comments here are somewhat lukewarm.
I think you guys are underrating him. A tabled soft counter is great for playing some mind games with your opponent - it's a constant reminder to him that the next time he tries something fancy, you'll counter it. Yes it lets him play around it, but it can also cause him to slip up by over-thinking it.
The fact that it's a delayed soft counter on 3-toughness wings makes it a great card. He's a keystone part of why blue and artifacts work so well together.

Now I want to make a Replicate deck now, retriever cards like Skeleton Shard I just need to find some good ways to play with it.

A tougher, less damaging wind drake with a nice effect. Having it along with disruptive student is a pretty fun mind game.

"Let me show you how it's done, gentlemen." This guy's got panache.

Cards that add complexity to the board state are usually very useful. This guy is also good against decks that are very much on the curve. The flying 3 toughness is an added benefit. You won't be turning this sideways very often but it's a solid dude.
