Far better than most of the reprinted filler. At least not grossly overcosted or under-powered.

Thanks R&D for black lifelink... much more flavorful than in white.

On constructed: If you're playing mono-black vamps, there are better vamps. If you're playing multicolor vamps (for whatever reason), there are better cards. This won't see play.
On limited: This card is exactly what you want in a common two-drop: EASY to pick up mid-pack and WORTH picking up mid-pack. It fills your curve beautifully, helps you win races, and increases the pressure of M11 aggro-black decks substantially.

Extremely playable. Had this black baby win me a bunch of games with Vampire's bite. Quick, easy and rather annoying when your life goes up and their life goes down, down, down.

Zak's Comment of the Day 14 April Child of the Night
Child of the Night is a hidden treasure, horribly overlooked by most players.
First of all, this card has the potential to be played on go 1, with the help of a Dark Ritual, then I like to use an Unholy Strength to bump it up to a 4/2
From then on in, whenever this creature deals some damage, up goes your life total, ad down goes there's.
So when you look at the statistics, if she is unblocked for 3 turns, you will be on 26, and they will be on 14!
That means a 12 life difference!
Yes, this card feels like it should have flying, but you know how black treats its small flyers! Black just overprices them.
If this card costed 3 , it would make sense if it had flying or was a 2/2, but thankfully she's cheap!
So what are you waiting for!
Use this card!

That may be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. First, losing THREE cards for a 4/2 lifelink is really ***, and you would have to have those three cards in you opening hand. Second, what are the chances a 4 power creature is unblocked for 3 turns? A rediculous, very conditional combo that screws ou out of a lot of card advantage, and I guarentee you'll only hit once, if your lucky.

Not bad with blade of the bloodchief, but you're typically better of just using vampire nighthawk. Flying, deathtouch, and 3 toughness rather than 2... for {1} more, bit of a no-brainer. Something like first strike is nicer on a 2 drop anyway (vampire hexmage, anyone?). Still, pretty playable if you just need to fill out your deck or are running equipment to support it.

I'm gonna have to agree with Angus. A three card combo that doesn't win you the game outright is basically worthless. Especially when all your opponent needs to ruin your "combo" and deal with three of your cards is a vanilla 2 power creature or a lightning bolt.

Much Homage Child of Night! I would enjoy a foil playset of these!
Still running a full playset in my mono black life-gain deck, she's sooo good! People WILL use their removal on these girls... =P 4.5/5 since M10!!!
