Why did they let him go seven times...? And isn't the appropriate time to surrender while you're being captured, not after they let you go? This card has me very confused on standard oriental martial practice.

They let him go 7 times to try to woo him to join thier side they were at war with antother warlord and they wanted his armies aid rather just to absorb some of it
