This sounds basically like a variation of the legendary Guan Di from Chinese Foklore.

You mean the patron saint of bean curd, featured in the movie "My Name Is Bruce" starring Bruce Campbell? Good movie. And by good I mean hilariously bad.

He's from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which is the story of a period of Chinese history.

By far the most playable rare creature of P3! Toughness equal to the casting cost, decent power, the nifty horsemanship ability, and notice the "you may" part of if it goes to the graveyard? Unlike other creatures with similar activation, you MUST!, you have an option. Option a. help slow down decking and hope for a lucky draw or creature fetch, option b. get your reanimation spells or effects ready! I'm ready to debate with ANYONE on a better rare creature from P3. So damn good I'm willing to play this card in a casual game using regular legal cards. Not so much most other P3 cards:)

Guan Di is the venerated name for Guan Yu, the historical figure depicted in this card. After Guan Yu's death, the Chinese began to worship him for his bravery and strength. He is still widely worshiped nowadays, in Chinese secret societies especially.

Great fun as an EDH commander! Or maybe not.

Great combo with Captain Sisay . They're both going in my Sisay EDH deck.
