Lol.
Kobolds are mostly 0/1s, with a couple of 1/2s. Trample isn't that useful on them, at least not without a pump in power. But the Sergent pumps toughness. As I said, lol.

Now your army of 0/2 trampling kobolds can strike fear into the hearts of your opponents.

The Kobolds fit right with the D&D theme that sort of floated around in Legends.

The odd part is that now that WotC owns D&D (which they did not back when this card was created), they have yet to create any more Kobold creatures, at least not as far as I know.

As for this card, it must have been a joke... increasing toughness while giving out trample. Hahaha...

4 marton stromgald
3 gauntlet of might
4 rise of the hobgoblins
4 claws of valakut
kobolds:
4 drill
4 overlord
4 task master
10 normal
23 mountains

trample now makes sense sice your kobolds are 10/11 in your 5th turn

There was another Kobold that didn’t quite make the cut at the beginning of the list by the same artist. I don’t know if the Kobold in front is crying because his Drill Sergeant is having an allergic reaction or because they’re all about to be crushed by a giant head of cauliflower. Either way, this two dimensional depiction of whatever is going on does not size up in my opinion. Is that a golf club in his hand? and where is his fingernail on his pointer finger? ohhh… That’s why the Kobold is crying.

Well I suppouse it's a cheap way to give your Chameleon Colossus trample. Also good for laughs but that's it.

One piece of the puzzle, as it were. Increasing toughness and trample doesn't make much sense, no, but when you look at the other Kobold lords that are available you can see why this guy is fairly powerful. Get him out alongside a few Kobold Taskmasters and he'll pull his weight.

Also worth noting is that this is the only Kobold who is any additional creature type other than Kobold, specifically Soldier. Some confusing potential there.

He's not as bad as he looks. Now that the kobold lords are all kobolds themselves, a deck with him, Kobold Overlord, and Kobold Taskmaster is surprisingly playable, sort of like proto-slivers.

Combine with Bend or Break and Boom // Bust to trade away lands, since your kobolds cost 2 mana (or zero).

And then he herded two of every creature onto a boat... AND THEN HE BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF EVERY SINGLE ONE!
