i used to think this card absolutely godly

But you failed to notice... it's from Masques.

So it automatically is awesome.

But deathtouch creature must damage the attacker or the blocker, whereas this works by just getting blocked or by blocking.

So when attacking with this with Lure you can kill all blockers, wheras a deathtouch creature can only kill as many as its power.

So creatures with deathtouch don't do better than this, Thicket Basilisk, Kjeldoran Frostbeast etc.

Dread Specter is not the first card I would've expected to be functionally reprinted.

In America, you make 'chump block.'

In Soviet Russia, blocker makes chump of you.
