Obviously it suffers in comparison to Oblivion Ring, but it's still a perfectly playable card.

Oblivion Ring might trigger the triggers, duh. This won't do that.

Prison Term is better I think as long as the {W}{W} isn't a problem.

Confirmed as being in Scars of Mirrodin.

Locks down your opponent's general in EDH; O-ring just sends it to the command zone.

I got one of these, and traded it away. Then it got reprinted, and I started thinking how cool it would be to play an old one ina tournament. Without knowing I was going to give my friend a rare for it, he tore it up when he saw the merfolk had no pants. I realized I didn't need Merfolk flashers anyway.

@Robram: actually no, she was framed by the Mercadians to negate their deal. Found in the book Mercadian Masques.

Read the books, love the flavor!

Strictly better than Pacifism, doesn't trigger leaving OR coming into play abilities like Oblivion Ring, AND is more splash-able than Prison Term. Oh, it's an uncommon too? Yes please.

RANDOM CARD REVIEW - 12-13-12

Many comparisons can be made between cards like Arrest and cards like Oblivion Ring. On the one hand, Pacifism effects don't actually get rid of a creature; they merely make it useless in combat. On the other hand, if an Arrest is destroyed, that's all that happens; their guy can attack and block again. If an Oblivion Ring is destroyed, however, any of the creature's "enter-the-battlefield" triggers will go off, and the frequency of those triggers is cause for concern. Either card is a good means of removal, but each type has its limitations as well.

On the whole, however, the main draw of cards like Arrest is the fact that they are some of W's most effective removal spells, especially in a limited format. Arrest in particular shines because of its ability to shut down activated abilities. While its cost may not make it feasible in Standard, making a big, annoying creature useless for your opponent is quite satisfying. They may still be able to use the creature for sacrifice effects and the like (something which is not available to them if the creature is under an O-Ring), but the likelihood of that is very low. This is, in general, a good Magic card: It's not a bomb or a piece of a ridiculous combo, but it's certainly far from a dud or a disappointment, and it can even rise to first-pick status in drafts.

This particular printing of Arrest, however, suffers from rather lackluster artwork. As cool as it is to see Orim, the scene itself is quite boring, and the merfolk aren't wearing nearly enough clothing for my tastes. And why is the character in the foreground holding his spear by the blade? That seems incredibly unsafe. My favorite part of this piece of art is probably the background, especially the shark behind the glass; the rest is just "meh."
