I think you missed the first 2 times this card showed up in Time Spiral and Tenth Edition.

A more expensive version of Death Stroke http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Discussion.aspx?multiverseid=26629
This card is simply not flexible enough and to situation oriented to be effective in competitive constructed matches.

I think this may be the gather's oversensitive profanity filter's least favorite card. Assassinate...see?

A nicely balanced card. A one-for-one that gains you the advantage if you play well (choose the right creature to take out, at the right time). It's not an instant, but can take almost any creature (eg. it doesn't specify non-black)... Vigilance lends a nice little Black vs White tension to it. And I don't feel bad losing a 5 or 6 mana creature to a 3 mana spell (whereas it is really depressing when you finally hit 6 mana and drop your beautiful dragon just to have the opponent off it for 1 or 2 mana).
Though this is a nice sorcery, and something good you can pull on your opponents, I find that having a Royal Assassin or two out on the field is ever more powerful. They're the same converted cost, but Royal Assassins are reusable and their effects are "instants," so you can take out attackers immediately after they're declared.

A$$A$$INATE, or just assassinate? Gotta love it when filter's do their job. Reminds me of an MMORPG that had a Damned Skeleton which name was cencored.

I can never Auto-Card this thing when I reference it. It stresses me at times.
This card just feels bad to play. Because it's a sorcery, the tapped creature you're killing most likely just beat your head in last turn.

@Tommy9898: What about Death Stroke? It's cheaper? Also harder to splash for with {B}{B} instead of just {B}.
Considering Royal Assassin, I think this could have been an instant, though it'd have to be heavier in the colored cost in that case, like {1}{B}{B}.

Pretty mediocre removal spell. Better options in literally every constructed format, but it's at least decent in limited. My friends came up with an analogy comparing this to Royal Assassin: Assassinate is how amateurs do it, and Royal Assassin is how a professional does it.

The name of the guy who made the quote... They really didn't read that phonetically.
