Thank god it's uncommon so I don't have to pull too many of it from packs...

When i glanced at the artwork and saw a Word with about five letters starting with a "G" left from the word "Warrior" as creature type, i was at first wondering whether we have some sort of heavy 4/5 Goblin fatties in this set, but then i realized the only Goblin here is the one being crushed by this Giant.
But since we have a Goblin in our artwork, we also have another amusing flavor text for the card - at least, since zapping Goblins or players when you can afford six mana is not that overwhelming...

Is it me or are there A LOT of uncommons in this set? Looking through some of the cards I feel like wizards took a bunch of commons and made them uncommon to dilute your chances of getting actually good cards. I've read so many uncommons that under-whelmed me like this one in this set.

Every set gets its stinkers. I don't like this card, but I've seen worse. And, at uncommon, I won't need to worry about cracking too many of them.

I can't decide if this is worse than Razor Boomerang or not...

Razor Boomerang is far worse than this. This can help you win, albeit for way too much mana. Razor Boomerang won't, ever.

This is actually a decent pick in limited... especially with some Eldrazi spawns to help bring it to play faster.
P.S. You can still equip Razor Boomerang to this to deal... well ya anyways... this card was really made for limited.

This is from a Latest Developments article about the uncommons in RotE:
"BT 12/16: Another playtest favorite. So many fun stories from that silly 1 damage. TML 1/9/2009: Another adorable red card. I just want to go and hug all of them. MP 3/9: Lots of cards in the set that make people smile. :) DB 4/2/2009: "OOPS A PEBBLE FELL OFF MY HEAD. SORRY, LI'L GUY DOWN THERE" AF 5/21: It's like I'm reading Savor the Flavor!
All Magic sets have cards that are internally controversial, but they also have cards that everyone falls in love with. This is what a multiverse record looks like when a card is loved. If I remember correctly, only the creature type and name changed on this card from prior to these Multiverse comments to print. That's impressive!"
I find it amusing that everyone in R&D loved this card, and yet as of writing this there isn't a single positive comment about it in gatherer.

I find it amusing that "it's made for limited' has become the standard excuse for filling sets with crappy cards that are completely unplayable even in casual constructed. If you stop to think for a minute, you'll realize this argument makes no sense. It's not like there's anything inherent about the limited format that REQUIRES cards to be crappy. If Wizards made sets in such a way that even the commons were decent and playable, there would still be a limited format, the only difference being that the card quality would be closer to what you see in constructed. As it stands, the only reason that Wizards maintains such a disparity in quality between overpowered rares and the mostly underpowered commons/uncommons that are "made for limited" is to make more money. That's it. It would be nice to have a game where most of the cards could be used in some way or were actually tradeable instead of one where 90% of the cards you pull end up in the junk pile at the game shop, and even the rares are worthless unless they're one of the 5 or so sought-after ones.

Outside of taking out a weak creature (specifiaclly the Elderazi Spawn), this card is pretty bad. They should have at least given it trample...

No, Wizards. Homelands is the set you were supposed to print bad cards in....
Granted, it's mythic vs uncommon, but same cost for 2 more power, 1 more toughness, pumpable power for R, 2 more damage on come into play, 3 damage each time it attacks, and the damage can be divided among up to 3 targets.
I would pay $40 to a webstore and get 4 Inferno Titans before even pondering putting this in a deck.

Cute art and text, 0.5 for each so 1/5 for a terrible card to play with. goes great with binders though.

You could play this in a multiplayer deck if you worry about being "the main target" in free-for-all. The one damage ping could potentially take out a medium or major threat, but unlike Inferno Titan he isnt highly likely to draw removal like a magnet.

How the hell does a pouncing giant deal only a single, freakin' damage when it lands on something?! Not only is it bad, there's also practically no correlation between flavour and mechanics on this dumb card! It could at least have dealt damage equal to its power when it came into play or something, at least that way it would make some sense.
Honestly, this was fine in limited. It had a decently sized body that made it effective against levelers, though it was ineffective against Eldrazi, and could knock out an opponent's spawn token, or low-toughness creature like Enclave Cryptologist.
Terrible anywhere else, of course, but I didn't mind playing this one in draft or sealed.

Way back when, I bought two RotE booster boxes. I only ended up with two of these guys. And there was much rejoicing. Besides, it doesn't require much effort to stomp a goblin anyway.

This card really isnt as bad as everyone is making it to be. Decent pick in limited although it is in the RotE limited with other big creatures aplenty

Hey if your opponent has X/1 creature out, this will stomp on it and then stay as a 4/5 beater. Stylish way to kill a pesky creature. Maybe a sideboard card in an excellent ramp deck? If you cant afford Inferno Titan of course.

I understand that they didn't want to make it reflect Earth Elemental too closely, but it's just not worth at uncommon. They probably should've either had it costed at or reduced it to a common rarity rating. The latter doesn't affect its playability however. It does have decent creature type relevancy though; or at least it could if used with cards from earlier blocks. The concept's pretty cool actually. It could be used to ping something annoying or cast after combat to finish off something that was damaged during the fight. Either way you'll get a reasonably sized defense that should slow down a lot of the earlier threats on the field.
I hate to see creative cards made useless by overcosting. Oh well.
