Could be worse, but I'm not a fan.

Had to look at this and Goblin Roughrider (by the same artist) together to see if it was the same creature on each card. It's not.

this is pretty good when your opponent only has one guy out, but other than that it could be cheaper

It has its niche, and you have to admit that its ability can make walls worthless, which is always good.

Um... It's a 3/3 that disables a blocker whenever it attacks for 5. WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT!?!?!?

@test-subject, if they had made it a 5/3 or even a 4/3 I'd think it a little better. As of now, no, I don't want to pay 5 mana for it.

One step closer to making a lizards vs wizards dual decks.

It is actually a really good card. I got one and stuck it into my R/B Metalcraft deck as filler (yes, it doesn't really fit) but it works really well! Sure, it could be bigger, but it is definitely worth at least a 3.5, not a 2.8

In design, this was a landfall card; Ken was experimenting with a "basic land type matters" theme.

4R
Whenever a land comes into play under your control, CARDNAME gains first strike until end of turn. If that land was a Mountain, CARDNAME gets +2/+2 until end of turn.
3/1

Then he simplified it a bit, to only work with mountains:

3R
Whenever a Mountain comes into play under your control, CARDNAME gets +2/+2 and gains first strike until end of turn.
2/1

However some people did not like this twist. It meant it heavily favored mono-red, especially in limited. So Ken changed it back.

Next he tried:

3R
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, target creature can't block this turn.
3/2

This "Stun" trigger was too much; if you had one blocker, you couldn't block anyone. Ken changed it to an evasion ability, and less of a team-evasion ability.

3R
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, target creature can't block CARDNAME this turn.
3/3

Development took over the file, and found this to be way too similar to Bladetusk Boar. Mike Turian (the lead developer) changed it back to:

3R
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, target creature can't block this turn.
3/3

Most of the members of the development team were finding Red and Black to be too powerful in limited. most of this was coming from Zendikar, but that doesn't matter. Our job is (was) to change Worldwake so Zendikar-Worldwake limited is more fun. Mike decided to make the simplest change: He added a mana.

After development meetings end, the lead developer continues to here issues, and maintain the file. Why the change? I am not positive, but my suspicion is that Mike decided that each color gets at most 2 common landfall cards. This was the right one to change; until I started writing about this card, I forgot that this ever was a landfall card. Mike had to make a change, and picked a card where no one noticed.

Goblin Roughrider

I love cards with connected flavor.

Even if the creatures don't match it doesn't mean it isn't the same Goblin. haha
