Agreed. Go grab any "shock land" that isn't Stomping Grounds, Steam Vents, or Breeding Pool.

@Guest446511502

They use it just to fetch swamp and reshuffle the deck if the top card isn't a black card for Vampire Nocturnus.

Besides enabling Nocturnus, they can also provide multiple triggers for Bloodghast

Reasons for this being in mono-black Vampire decks include
-Vampire Nocturnus
-Bloodghast
-Thining your deck

I run four of these in a mono-black zombie deck. You would be suprsied but the ability to thin your deck of land alone is well worth the one life per land.

so many reasons these zendikar fetch lands are great:
1. find just the right land you need at the moment
2. the land you find doesn't come into play tapped!
3. activate landfall twice
4. thin your deck of land
5. for when you need a library shuffle
so worth the 1 life investment

"I found it, I did. A way through the marshes. Orcs don't use it. Orcs don't know it. They go round for miles and miles. Come hobbitses, soft and quick as shadows we must be."

@ Rikeus : You use it over Evolving Wilds because Marsh Flats doesn't drop the land in tapped. It's basically the difference between a good land and a bad land.

Noobs: Why is this card good?

Me: :(

So, not only does it thin decks, get the land to enter untappped, it itself enter untapped, fetch nonbasic Plains/Swamps, fix your mana efficiently and effectively, etc, but noobs STILL don't understand how it's awesome.

Also @ HairlessThoctar: Yeah, not to mention at instant speed. Which of course means if one of your opponents has 10 or less life, you have a surprise attacker :)

Wizards, I think you guys need to make land-only booster packs.

"Why would you ever use this instead of Terramorphic Expanse or Evolving Wilds?"

Two big reasons...

1. The land you put into play is Untapped.. Terramorphic/Evolving put it into play tapped (unuseable).

2. You can search for dual shock lands.. Not just BASIC lands... If you don't understand why that is incredibly important.. Well... As Yoda would say. "Much to learn you still have...."

These are great fetch land cards.. There is a reason they are expensive, the demand is high for good cards.. and these are rare... I feel that all these lands should be printed at uncommon so all players have fair access to mana fixing since many games are so dependant on it... No one likes winning or losing because someone got mana screwed and couldn't even play.

"Why would you ever use this instead of Terramorphic Expanse or Evolving Wilds?"

With Terramorphic Expanse or Evolving Wilds, the lands come into play tapped, and must be BASIC lands - even though you can search for any basic land.

The fetchlands let you search for basic and nonbasic (insert land types here), and put them into play untapped, which means you can search for basics of the type specified on the card, or you could search for shocklands or (in formats they are legal in) ABUR duals, which is great for many reasons - from access to 2 colors faster, to access to 3+ colors fast depending on the deck. For example, if running THIS fetch in a BlackWhiteBlue deck, you could put it out T1 and right then and there use it to search for a Watery Grave, since it is a Island-Swamp, then giving you access to Blue and Black mana... then if you were lucky enough to have a second, T2 you could use your 2nd to search for say a Hallowed Fountain BlueWhite - turn 2 you have access to White, Black, and Blue mana - AND while getting those lands out, since they come into play untapped, you can actually use the land you played each turn that turn.

Hope that bit of rambling made sense.
