I like the flavor of the artwork, though i do wish it was drawn differently. the 7th Edition art has a better looking Axe, but doesn't fit the flavor text, because it doesnt seem like he is actually throwing it.

A very underestimated card. Yes, 5 mana for 5 damage to a player only seems a bad deal, but since magic is played with 20 life points, this spell sometime is the best possibility to win against an opponent with a lot of strong creatures defending him.

Fairly good in Limited, but it's kind of expensive.
This can end the game fairly, though rather a little costly... id use this in mono red burn deck but only in the sideboard though.. still a great card, smack it in the board and say "Catch!"... 4/5

Or you can triple Lightning Bolt them instead. And it's cheaper.

They should make a new version thats an instant or targets creatures or both.
Its still a somewhat solid card. More then ok for limited.

yeah jhimbob i think everyone can do math here.. but is that really practical? when are you honestly going to draw and be able to play 3 lightning bolts in one turn? Also then you have like none left..

I don't understand how anyone can like 7th edition art. Almost every single new art in that set looks horrid. Then again, I started playing between the end of tempest and the beginning of Urza's, so that's more the art style I prefer.

Sure you can triple bolt someone, or flamjavlin and shock them for more damage or a cheaper cost, but there is a little thing called card advantage too :)

Decent finisher, but I think Unstable Footing has made it obsolete.

Expensive, until you easily kill an opponent with it as a top deck, lol.
Vanilla red damage disher, can be pumped up with various enchantments, etc.
3/5

ok, me and my friend were arguing about this. If an opponent has a planeswlker, could i target the planeswalker instead of a player, considering that they are basicaly the same thing, in theory

@Sir_Kaeru: Yes, that's right, and you can do so with any other damage spell which lets you target a player.

@Sir_Kaeru: Technically, no. You can't target planeswalkers if it says "target player". But, you can redirect the damage to a planeswalker, a decision that you make when the spell resolves. And you don't have to, nor should you, tell your opponent that you're going to do so. Especially if you're worried he might counter it if you do.

This card isn't that bad. It's been obsoleted by Beacon of Destruction and Unstable Footing, but it's still decent on its own. A fine-tuned burn deck doesn't need spells this big, but still, how else do you do a direct five damage for 5 mana?

I love this card; I wish it was played more in casual. I've been playing for years and still in drafts have been known to inadvertently call this card "Catch." For me, it's more about that than the axe of lava.

5/5 for my favorite flavor text when starting out.
