Chandra, one of the most hyped of the first 'walker set. And she is very nice.
Before O-Bolas got his new card, she had the only ability that could increase her loyalty and hold down other 'walkers from attaining an ultimate out of the first generation 'walkers (barring some baby makings by Garruk).
Her second ability is only really good because of her nice beefy beginning loyalty. Most creatures will die from 4 or less damage . . . and her starting loyalty allows her to be a 5cc 6 damage burn spell at any creature. This is really good . . . but after one activation of it, it hurts her far too much to allow her not to die the very next turn more often than not.
Her last ability... is a little overkill... 10 damage, to each creature, and their god-'walker (the player, for you nonVorthos)!? By the time that happens, in most red decks, your opponent will be dead.
A killer beginning this new card type, and a wonderful successor to Jaya. And like most 'walker's abilities . . . her "build-up" ability and her "ultimate" ability have awesome synergy with each other. (1 damage every turn . . . weakens the opponent just enough to kill them with her ultimate or -at the very least- take out all their creatures and a HUGE chunk of life from them.)

The best planeswalker out there. If you play her right, it is very hard to lose, she has even saved my but a few times. A must for a red deck.

Chandra Nalaar is like using battlefield nukes on your opponent.

Her first ability is good at weakening the opponents planeswlaker or just chipping the opponents life before destroying them with her ultimatum. Her second ability is the best and exrtemely effective for killing creatures. Her last ability is way over the top, but its so fun to play and watch as your opponent loses everything on thier side of the board and a huge chunk of thier life total. The shiny artwork for the dual deck version of her is hot.

chandra naalar is a pretty good planeswalker, and elspeth doesnt even phase this one. her +1 ability can help to keep opponet planeswalkers at bay while you bombard them with creatures. dealing damage to creatures can help, but if its enough damage to take out a big baddy, you might as well have just used her last ability, which is my favorite. Chandra's last ability kills, literally. it will completely destroy opponent planeswalkers, and leave their whole feild bare. then you can unleash your full power against your opponent and destroy them. If you can't win after using chandra's last ability, either your opponent has a ton of life, or your doing something way wrong. Super good in any red deck, just make sure to use her last ability at least once if u get her out.

She is hot, in both instances.....I agree, can't help the pun, the Chandra deck version of her is much better.
Chandra possesses one of my favorite ultimates of all time, and it doesn't take but a few turns to do it either.

Why the hell does she start off with so many loyalty counters?! Not only is it unfair, but she's not supposed to be loyal!!

Well Chandra is a good to add in a burns deck if you can keep her alive. My burns deck is part destroy, part discard, and a huge chunk red burns. But use Duress to keep stuff that can hurt Chandra out of reach. But on first hand experience Chandra sucks against counters and you can hand mill them enough or it wouldn't be a burns deck but....a deck like mine with twenty one black and red burns and 2x Hostility with Rakdos Pit Dragon and x2 Furnace Whelp has a good chance of outlasting counters but still alot of the time gets the job done using uncounterable burns like Demonfire. Not all decks are perfect.

i dont get why Chandra is shown wearing the chainmail and plate shoulders+gauntlets. it is said in the book she only has leather gloves, boots, and shoulderpads, and a knee length shirt split from he waist to the hem
doesnt exactly make sence either how the Monastary could train her as a smith or provide the armor

@WitcherRage Besides spelling the word "Because" wrong, you cant even do simple math? It takes Chandra 3 turns to pop her ultimate off.

Her +1 is kinda weak, her -x is kinda weak, her ultimate is kinda AWESOME! Only 3 turns out to deal 10 damage to the opponent and all his creatures is one of the strongest finishers.

Chandra is one of the most powerfull plansewalker cards out there. She has high starting loyalty which can help her survive long enough to build enough points and activate her ultimate attack. Her first ability helps build up her loyalty while at the same time you can destroy your opponent's monsters or lower his life points. Chandra's second ability is something like a Fireball aimed only at creatures. You can kill almost any creature simply by using Chandra's starting loyalty points. Now it is time to activate her thir ability, her ultimate spell, and watch your opponent burn in cathartic flames allong with his creatures. It is something like a red version of Wrath of God. 10 points of damage to every creature is way too much and 10 points of damage to the life points of a player all in one turn is almost certain death. And even if your opponent survives Chandra's last ability he/she will be left without monsters (only lands) and with too little life points which makes it certain that you can win the duel in the followin 2 turns if not the turn Chandra's ability was activated. Chandra is a must for burn decks and she is also a lifesaver. She has saved me a couple of times when i was playing against my friend's green deck and he started summoning big creatures early. Chandra Nalaar is one of my favourite cards and she's also a powerful plansewalker

Slowest of all the planeswalkers imo. Turn 5 to play and turn 7 before she's any good.

powerful card she can use her last ability as soon as the 7th turn and when she dose if you dont win the game you need to get a better deck.
The fact that you only need 2 turns after you play her, to demolish your opponent and their field, is pretty scary. It doesn't hurt that she's hawt either. :p

I like this art, it's amazing! Also, I think Chandra doesn't see enough play. She doesn't need to be built around and she has very good abilities. She should be a staple of every burn deck.

While her Planeswalker cards are usually interesting, I hate Chandra for being the most one-dimensional of the neo-walkers, personalitywise. What's her personality? She burns stuff. And she's not even a cool or interesting pyromaniac, like Jaya Ballard. She's the most boring kind of pyromaniac one could design.

Great planeswalker. Her +1 is okay, her -x is good depending on the situation, and her -8 is just bonkers. Imho her only drawback is that her 5cmc is a little much for some speedy red decks.

got the Duel Decks: J v. C mainly because this art reminds me of Anakin on Mustafar. in that box, discovered the card 'Fact or Fiction' with the Dementor art. O.O' such a tragic irony that I was drawn to the fire, and left realizing that Blue is 10x >>>>> Red. I'm sorry Chandra. You're still hot at least :)
2013 update: this art has aged FANTASTICALLY. Back when Jace vs. Chandra was printed in like, 2007 or 2008, I was pretty sure I liked the Lorwyn art a lot more. But! in retrospect this is probably the very best Chandra art we have of the available. Kev Walker knows how to draw smoke, clouds, and fire. =) ....And Chandra, the Firebrand is ...so....:(
Kawaii? :P Like, Jace and Chandra actually got Anime Duel decks for a reason. Their M12 and 13 cards look like Anime characters -_-
Final Note: Interesting how hyped she was, and how she may have filled the hype of her card type in general, but not the proportional hype of her being incredibly interesting among Other Walkers. The reason we see Midrange and Creatures dominating the game today, is because the Planeswalker card type is responsible for the Power Creep of Creatures. if we DIDN'T have Thragtusks and Baneslayers being hilariously ridiculous, the PLANESWALKERS ASSEMBLE/SuperFriends deck WOULD win basically every game in basically every format so badly it would be unamusing.
Tarmogoyf even is part of the helping to keep Walkers down in older formats with Creatures.
