the artwork is kinda creepy...i mean look at it, it has no freaking body and is walking on tethered arms. but then again, most thrull artworks from old cards are somewhat creepy^^
i'd like that one more if it wasn't for the "either combat damage or trigger effect"-clause, another typical feature only older cards have.

That is some of the most badass art I've ever seen on a Magic card. Also, the card isn't dreadful, for something made in Fallen Empires.

Whispersilk Cloak or some other sort of evasion, and you have a really annoying card, especially in a multiplayer game.
In fact, you could say that you'd want to keep one of these handy for a discard deck.

A 2/2 for {1}{B}{B} is nothing spectacular, but the additional ability will likely have your opponent topdecking, since (in most cases) the earliest this guy will swing is turn 4 (assuming you never miss a land drop, and don't have any mana acceleration, summon him T3, then swing T4). Even then though, your opponent has to find a way to deal with him, either by blocking or by wasting a removal spell on him (which against a {B} creature can be hard to come by). My only criticism is the fact that using the ability negates the combat damage, this is a mechanic often seen on older cards but it still isn't as threatening to have this guy come through unblocked and deal 2 damage or that player discards three cards, instead of dealing 2 damage and that player discards three cards.
Works well with mechanics that make him unblockable, such as Goblin Tunneler, or Whispersilk Cloak as other players have mentioned.

Well, it's not a Hypnotic Specter, but it can force a serious discard early in the game. Probably saw some play at the time.

The artwork leaves an impression to say the least. Not a bad card mechanically either. 4/5

Best Artwork in set. It's actually a meaner card in use than theory. Love/hate this one much.

Play him turn 1 with Dark Ritual. Hypnotic Specter might be a better choice for turn 1, but forcing them to discard 3 cards on turn 2 does have its appeal.

This card in the same format as Dark Ritual is no joke. Discarding three cards so early in the game is a real backbreaker.

I like the other 2 versions of the art for this card. This one gets a minus 500 out of 5 stars for being hideously ugly.

Thrulls are never depicted the same twice. I guess they didn't have an art director to lay out a style guide... I mean, I guess it's neat that you get to see all the artists' inpressions of what a thrull is supposed to be, but it's kind of jarring when you're playing with a thrull deck and nothing looks like anything else...
