If you don't cringe when you see this... you've obviously never played against it.

One of the few cards I can honestly say I like from Fallen Empires...

I like how this was a common, but Derelor was a rare. Oh-ho, this block...

Absolutely brutal. This card is here to kill your hand and chew gum, and it is all out of gum.

Hands down the best card of the set.

One of the most powerful, if not THE most powerful, discard spells ever created. A set of these fired off an early game Dark Ritual effectively ended the game.

Top 5 card in this set. Cheap, ugly, pain without payback. hate black, love this card.

How is this legal in any duel format? Because it's not a combo, I suppose? Just VERY high power?

I like this Hymn's art the most. Great sense of movement and sinister feel to it. You just know that mage is about to make you discard a Jace.

This is up there with Mind Twist for utterly brutal discard. I once got two boxes of fallen empires for twenty bucks off a classmate, and I'm still a bit baffled by the fact that almost every playable card in the set is at common: I own at least four playsets of this and Goblin Grenade, and pulled just one copy each of (rare) chaff like Goblin Flotilla and River Merfolk. If it had been the reverse, I would have been so much less pleased with my purchase.

True story:

A friend was playing my vintage black deck which has four of these bad boys in it. I played my mono-black vampire deck. Here's how the first two turns went:

Opponent T1: Swamp
Me T1: Swamp, tap, Vampire Lacerator
Opponent T2: Swamp, tap, Hymn. He picks... two Bloodghasts
Me T2: Swamp, two Bloodghasts, tap, some Vampire (I can't remember because I was still laughing)

The rest of the game was unmemorable. Good times.

Moral of the story: Even 5-star cards have a bad day. Oh, and huzzah for Quinton Hoover.

Best art of the card, Discarding at random is just unfun though...

when i first saw this i fell in love, thus started a beautiful friendship. Whoever disagrees with the power of this card should try this: on turn two of a game look at your hand and think about how many things could go wrong for you if you get hymned.
YOU UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE!

R.I.P. To Quinton Hoover. His Hymn to Tourach art is easily one of my favorite arts in the game. He had a way of making this card feel genuinely pure evil.

Maybe cause those card is genuinely pure evil.

Tourach seems like he could have been a pretty tough customer. Dude was just a normal wizard and prayers to him rival the strength of Elder Dragons and Planeswalkers alike.
