The cool part is the ability goes off before damage.

I think this card's quite impressive. It's reasonably strong for an early game creature, and can take out ANY creature without flying, including those much stronger and more expensive than it is!

Considering this is an Ice Age creature, I'm surprised it's actually decently priced and doesn't have something like a cumulative upkeep that can only be paid with snow-covered lands.

Little spiders are a bit creepy, but giant ones are kinda cute. I wonder why?

A spider w/o reach..strange

@shocker300:

Not so strange, like in real life, trap door spiders don't weave webs, so not having reach is inline with the creature.

I think that you can bounce the spider to your hand, making it so only the attacking creature is removed. That makes this pretty neat, though I'd like it more if it was a 3/3 or had Deathtouch.

Actually quite good for a creature in Ice-Age times. A 2/3 beater that can keep you opponents best creature from attacking for 3 is actually not terrible, as many creatures from that time were.

I'm honestly surprised that this card isn't rated higher. It can take out your opponent's fatties (provided they don't have flying) with relative ease. The only thing that holds it back, in my opinion, is its boltable body. Other than that, it's a pretty good card.

Actually, the do weave webs, just not in the traditional sense. They lay webs out around their 'door' so they can remain hidden and feel when prey pass by. Kind of like trip wires. Their 'door' is also on a web hinge.

So yeah, no reach because they don't make webs in the air. But they do produce it.

So if I'm correct I can block one creature and exile another using one creature?
That's messed up, and by that I mean it could be really fun to play

This is still a good card. Straight up exiling a creature is something you never see in these colors, and the body is still somewhat reasonable compared to its manacost. I mean, it still manages to trade with a Bloodbraid Elf in direct combat. I'd actually play this in a red/green edh deck just to have an answer to indestructible creatures swinging at me.

The name was inspiration for giant ambush beetle.

This card has aged well. Thats because removal doesnt get worse with powercreep. But yeah 2/3 body for 3 is a little soft could be stronger. Still a good card for its time.
