Just so that you have a chance to activate it multiple times through untap effects, and then at the end of the turn you sacrifice it.
Seems like an interesting card design. The original is a little impractical for my tastes, however.

This is part of Fallen Empires's cycle of super weakened "boons" (after the Alpha ones). So weakened that they are almost unrecognizable as based on that original cycle. This one was giant growth.

Pointless. The fun of Giant Growth is that nobody saw it coming. This has no surprise value.

Not terrible, if at common, but again, as stated above, the whole point of Giant Growth is to surprise your opponents... yeah.
