should drop for 2

the only saving grace is that its a random discard

compared to Ravenous Rats, adding Red to the mana cost only to change the effect from the opponent's choice to a random selection is indeed a bit low.
as Stoo said, this card would be great for BlackRed, or with a 2/2 or at least 2/1 body.

It doesn't make much sense when the patriarch of discard creatures, Hypnotic Specter, costs the same amount of mana.

Meh, it's OK. I still like Ravenous Rats over it, though. At lest that's only Black so you don't have to worry about Colour.

This REALLY should have costed two mana...

It should have costed 2, then it would be more playable. I like the art, though.

at least now i know other people think this should cost BlackRed. at 3 mana, it's trash.

My Cascade deck is full of creatures that have come into play effects or haste, and I commonly cascade into this card after playing a Blood Braid Elf. It's either this or a Blightning, and either way, I'm getting card advantage. Good times.

This card is actually way better than most people are giving it credit for, especially in the Shards block. Even if you aren't running him in a Cascade-based deck he's still effective in a Jund deck with "when creature is put into graveyard" triggers. There's really no way you lose: you and your opponent both forfeit a card, except you get a 1/1 and he doesn't even get to pick the spell which he must throw away.

it should be 2 mana... or it should let you draw a card... or it should deal 1 damage to any target or something to make it better then it is. you should get a deal for it being multi coloured and even if this was mono black it wouldn't be amazing.

The problem with this card is that I just play Ravenous rats in my R/B discard deck... I mean, honestly, I have better T3 plays in that deck like lava zombie or hypnotic specter. This is just sad... The only reason it get's ANYTHING from me is that it seems like it would be OK with cascade... But there are so many other cards in that deck that I would rather cascade into...

If this was one black, one red it would have been a classic along the lines of Quasali Pridemage. Oh well still pretty good.

Yeah, at 3 mana it's not so great. It really should have been a two drop. 2/5

This card is actually pretty freakin' decent, and I find it odd that people aren't giving it credit.
It's a 1/1 body with a RANDOM discard, which can be all the difference.
Admittedly, this thing is overshadowed by Blightning, so I can see where this guy is just lacking.
But it's still quite decent.

The ability and casting cost is fine, but a 1/1 for 3 is just too underwhelming.

At least Sun Titan can recur it? Or yes, flip into it with Bloodbraid Elf and the likes.

Underrated but performs randomly based on the discard. Often messes up entire hands and comes back later to do it again if they still have cards.

Hypnotic specter while very good if he hits dropping both of them turn 3 he takes an extra turn to swing and can be easily killed and/or blocked preventing discards. This guy ETB's it.

I run 2 in my Jund deck along with Blightnings and a slight devour/reanimate /bounce undertone and I'm never dissapointed when I draw these.

One of the most gruesome art I've seen on a magic cards with a fitting flavortext.

Adding haste and/or a bit more p/t would not have broken this, making it 2cmc probably would have.

3.5 solid if you're planning on messing up your opponents and like a bit of random variation

Not underrated. Wizards is careful with random discard after Hymn; this one was too careful. Black cat was *somewhat* careful. They'll eventually ease up again I imagine, it's just worrisome because random has a chance of land screwing the opponent, which is terrible for keeping customers (because people don't like it lol)

The discard effect doesn't need to be stronger - the creature does. For 3 mana I'd expect this to be bigger. Actually, having it be a 2/2 or giving it deathtouch nowadays probably wouldn't be unreasonable.

I think this card is appropriately costed. It could've been 2cmc, but if wizards can't decide, they err on the side of caution and make it cost more. Random discard is a pretty powerful effect. I will concede, however, that this didn't need to take up an uncommon slot.
