I want to love this card...but I just can't. It's got great flavor and a neat effect, but river's grasp does a better job at the same cost. Why can't we just have recoil back...other than the fact that it's just outright better than comparable cards in current formats.

I too want to love this card but objectively I shouldn't. It's a Distress with a cantrip for two extra mana. Doesn't seem right does it?

not great, but not bad. unlike duress, this can get an important land drop, or a creature. the card advantage as well doesn't hurt, certainly playable in the right deck.

Simply too expensive, it should cost only UB.

This card is alright. It'll disrupt your opponent, possibly take away his best card and finally this card will replace itself. It's a solid card. The cost is also okay. Distress is two mana and turning a spell into a cantrip usually costs 2 extra mana.
At 3 mana this would probably be too strong. Especially since you can let them discard any card. Even land.
At 2 mana? There would be no reason not to run this if you have the colors. That's a bad thing.

It's not a Distress with cantrip, it's Coercition with cantrip, and it's perfectly costed! However, I would have preferred a Distress with cantrip, at ...

Who keeps saying this is Distress with a cantrip? Because it's not.
It's Coercition with a cantrip.
Coercition costs 2B, so making this cost 2UB is a great price and this is a really underrated card.

Geez. At least it can hit land....
Good in a casual game to hit your opponent's Pathrazer of Ulamog or something.

This would've been fine at or at least .

They should have just reprinted Recoil, or just tweaked the mana cost to match. But not bad.

Why are more than one person calling Coercion, 'Coercition'??

This is the very essence of card advantage. Not only do you not give up anything important, but you choose exactly what your opponent is losing, including a critical land drop, or a planeswalker.

And then Alara Reborn taught us that even though multicolor cards look pretty, they're not all very playable. Still, I would play this in EDH if I needed filler.

Costed the same as Lobotomy, it would be a better candidate than Lobo for EDH but few other places.

This reminds me of Coercition except you get to darw a card.

A lot of silly criticism about this card. Yes, it's 4-mana to force a discard, which isn't very aggressive. It doesn't compare to Distress and it doesn't compare to Duress. Distress has BB in its cost - this doesn't. Distress can't discard lands, and duress can't discard lands or creatures.
This is Coercion (not "coercition" - what?!) with an extra pay U to draw a card. It's fairly costed for a common, but overall, yeah, it's not that great. I still have it as filler in my Megrim+Wistful Thinking deck, though. ;-)

It's pretty solid once you're confident your opponent only has one real threat left in their hand: you can pluck it out and nab some card advantage at the same time. The ability to ditch lands might seem limited to screwing up land drops for your opponents, but some cards like Valakut you're going to want to get rid of if you see.

Can hit any card so its always relevant. Even if your opponent had 3 lands, still relevant. It provides card advantage and removes a potential threat, also it gives you information of what you need to counter later.
Sorcery speed does set this back, but instant speed discard is rare.
