Began as a throwback and a replacement. Now, it just keeps us from getting other cool 3-cost Counters. Very blah.

Nerfed Counterspell, Worse than Forbid, Dissipate, and Faerie Trickery. This card is made for people playing standard and noe Extended which i am not.

I'm all in for reprinting Counterspell, but why do people hate this thing so much? I think its considerably better than a lot of the standard/extended counters out there (at least until recently). Compared to things like Discombobulate and Last Word, Cancel certainly isn't bad. It should be at least comparable with Hinder, which was a good counter in its time and an uncommon.

Actually I think that this is a great card, and it's very healthy for the game.
You see, Counterspell is just so good that it's really anoying. It was so good that it was actually pointless to play any other countermagic in place of counterspell.
That's when you realize that something must change. At 3 mana, cancel is very playeable but still it's no the obvious choice, the way that counterspell was. Counterspell was very blah, because everyone used it. With cancel, it's not always the case.
PD: Worse than Faerie Trickery? Like Faeries was not the strongest deck in standard.

Great, a simple cancel spell with-out any complications.

It's slightly sad that it costs more than the old version but I agree that's it's for the best.

For now, in standard, its ok, but not great. Faerie Trickery can definitely overshadow this card since Fae decks have lost popularity (bless you Volcanic Fallout) and therefore less worry about not being able to counter Fae's. In extended however, I don't see Cancel being played ever.

I absolutely hate, hate, hate, HATE this card! See, Wizards? No one's using this garbage! Give us our good old Counterspell back already!

In Shards This Card Was To Slow To Be Successful Due To How Fast The Block Was But In Core Sets Its Rather Good Do To The Mostly Two Color Decks And Slower Pace And Plus The Artwork Is Really Sweet Though I Prefer Remove Soul(Essence Scatter) Due To You Really Want To Counter The Big Creature But Cancel Is Alright.

Why doesn't it cantrip? at the price it easily could have cantripped.

I just love the art on this version. "I will crush you like this singularity!" Massive geekery points for anyone who knows what that's from.

"Hello Black Mage, would you like to cast a spell?"

"Yeah, I wanna cast a spell!"

CANCEL

Ominous zooming.

The picture is completely card crusher.

ColorlessBlueBlue can't really be kept as an apple for the thirst until a bit late in the game. Still, a good card which fits the Blue spirit.

That wizard is looking down at us, as if he has some reason to be proud. But we all know he's a broken-down husk of a mage, forced to cast Cancel.

Agreed, a bit of a pointless card. It's just a variation of Counterspell, but can be key in certain situations (anti-manaburn, more than 4 counters). It's just an alternate way to use it.
