I'm a bit confused, could someone explain to me why are obelisks better than say.. a jungle shrine? its the same thing, but the jungle shrine doesn't cost 3 mana even though it comes into play tapped. I suppose it would lend you a mana supply if your other lands got destroyed though.

@Donovan_Fabian, it's mostly limited filler. Not every draft or sealed pool will have a Jungle Shrine, so these help with your mana in Alara, which was a strongly 3-color environment. And they're okay if you can't get your hands on a few Jungle Shrines. Otherwise, you're absolutely right, they're pretty bad. Darksteel Ingot is strictly superior to these, and it was stupid WotC even printed the obelisks. What a waste of awesome art.

It's not limited by the 1-land-per-turn rule, so it accelerates your mana.

People need to think outside the box, seriously. Sure theres OTHER cards that are obviously superior, but are they in Standard? Sure, Jungle Shrine and the such ARE standard and the such, but what if you want to make a low budget standard deck, and dont feel like putting those tap lands in? I think people are to quick to judge things on basis's that other cards are better.

Decent fixing in a 5color EDH, where as good as the Ingot and Coalition Relic are, you can only have the one.

Taking a crack at a fixed obelisk (posting on Naya since it has the best art IMO).

Obelisk of Naya

RW, T: Add GG to your mana pool.

@Donovan_Fabian, you can only play one land per turn, so if you have a land to play every turn and you play this on turn 3, on turn 4 you have 5 mana instead of 4. It's not very good, I'll admit, there are many strictly better 3-drop artifacts, not to mention cards which are generally (if not strictly) better.

+1 for a flavorful cycle (I love cycles).

If your only running those three colors, this is equal to manalith, baring unique situations where you would need other colors because of something an opponent does.

Also you could run alongside manalith.

Artifacts don't have summoning sickness. You just paid two mana for a three colored land. This is better in every way than rampant growth in my opinion.

When you look at it that way, you all are dumb. What? Did you want it to cost two (a.k.a. 1?!) Yeah right, it's fair as it is.

Well balanced in my opinion and hardly a waste of art. One of the best.
