This would get a 4.5 if it was a Zombie Crocodile.

Why can't black creatures ever block anymore? This, bojuka brigand, mindless null? wtf?

Ya I agree with you, kryptnyt. Also bloodghast cant block.

But I just dont think this could ever really be useful except for a true beginner that literally doesn't have enough cards to fill a deck. Not being able to block ruins it for me, although it does get a good boost in a landfall deck. But just not great at all.

This was decent in limited sealed events. Most of the removal in Zendikar is non-black creature, and if you ran it with something that could get you land at instant speed (like Harrow) you could hit for 7 and dodge a Disfigure or something. Still, now that no one is really going to be drafting Zendikar it's bad to being pretty bad.

And yes, the "no blocking" thing on black creatures that are clearly already inferior to white counterparts Steppe Lynx is quite annoying.

White gets steppe lynx...
Red gets plated geopede...

And black gets 3/1 that can't block for CMC 4 with the same landfall trigger? That's twice that of the geopede, and four times that of the lynx! I know blacks' bigger creatures (especially demons) are supposed to have drawbacks, but come on! This should have been a 1/2 for 2 or a 2/1 for 3. And it should have been able to block.

a passable landfall card, killed by the inability to block.
Hell, i might even have considered using it if it could.

Krickey! Its unplayable!

This ol' bloke can't in possibay be a par' of the same bloody cycle as the rest of them.

The "cardname can't block" clause on black critters prevents them from being op, but also encourages the opponent to attack you more often, leaving up less blockers for things like a giant 7/5 crocodile on your swing back the following turn. This would be a much higher pick with trample and 2 toughness.
