It's a case of logic trumping humor. Hans was in Ice Age. Stronghold is set several hundred years after Ice Age, and on another world. Hans has not been declaired to be immortal, and all reference to him suggests he's just a normal human. Therefore logicaly he can't be in Stronghold. Yea, it's probably two seperate Hanses, but still, having the same name meant one Hans had to go.
