Granite Gargoyle is the perfect example of reverse power creep. For 3 mana, you get a 2/2 flyer that can pump its toughness. Compare to Goblin Sky Raider or Bird Maiden at the same cost. The difference, of course, being that Granite Gargoyle was rare, not common. Still, for a color that isn't known for having lots of options for small to mid-sized flyers, Granite Gargoyle is a great choice. Throw it in a deck with Roc of Kher Ridges, Dragon Whelps, and Earthquakes for ground-shaking fun.

Nice creature and very nice art, despite its age

Quite powerful little flyer. In the early game its a red Wind Drake with minimal buff abilities. In the late game (if you have enough mana) its a nice blocker against other flyers as there is no limit for the buff.

With a name like that, who wouldn't remember him?

Got one in a draft using italian revised circa 1997. I still have it and run in my casual red&green with great results. Classic.

Excellent flavor text, excellent blocker, balanced casting cost and abilities. Not as good as Hypnotic Specter, but what was at the time? Almost nothing. A solid 4/5.
