He's a great way to get some life back if you have some way to generate tokens for example. I use Lich Lord of Unx and this guy in a blue/black milling deck and I usually sacrifice the tokens after they ran against a big creature - and the fact that the Ghoul is a zombie as well helps the Lich Lord too, of course...^^

When it first came out, my casual group thought it was a really good card for some reason. Every deck that made black had him in just 'cause. Some players just love their life gain.

An amazing card if mixed with Savra, Queen of the Golgari and Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. Endrek -> Savra -> Gutless Ghoul and now just pay 1, sacrifice a thrull and they have to sacrifice a creature, do it ad nausium. Love this card.

Very playable. 2/2 for 2B? Zombie that gives you 2 life for {2} and saccing a creature? And he's snow!

oftentimes sacrificing a creature to Husk in response to removal gets you nowhere. This guy helps with that, you get a little profit instead.
This kind of card is beautiful as a one of in a casual or Commander zombie or sacrifice deck. For a utility creature it has an excellent creature type, low activation cost and reasonable body.

In a pure zombie build this is virtually the only way to gain life; an extremely vital service when running Shepherd of Rot, and has the beneficial side-effect of controlling your zombie population for better control over the Shepherd's ability.
My kitchen table group has learned that Gutlesss Ghoul is a prime target for removal, second only to Lord of the Undead.

Meh, I would prefer another 3 drop creature. I see that he fits well into some decks, but Ill take my nighthawk.

It's Scathe Zombies, but as a sac engine and as a Snow creature. That's...handy, I suppose.

Sac engines are never bad. They get rid of killing spells, for one thing.
