Funny - I have always read this card's flavour text as if it had been written by Endrek Sahr in an order to have the derelor itself executed.

Anyway, as for the card itself, this is part of black's storied tradition of printing cheap CMC fatties that have clear drawbacks. I suppose it depends what else you are doing with him, but it would be an unappealing way to get a cheap 4/4 for black nowadays...

Nice in a deck that only splashes black. Blue and red, for instance, don't have many reliable, mid-sized creatures to turn to.
