I consider this probably one of the greatest dragons ever printed. Its a beefy flier rolled into a powerful burn instant, simply dropping one of these onto the field is enough to cripple your opponent. Now what happens when you drop more than one? It's obviously designed to be played with Dragonstorm and works well in (what was) the standard environment. Sure, its mana cost is a bit steep but its effective even as a hard cast due to direct damage.

How many time have I dropped one and killed the board on my opponent's side just to untap and attack for 5? Really, really good, though I wouldn't place it above Hellkite overlord.

Dragonstorm's best friend. I feel like this card was a case of Timmy design that underestimated the ingenuity of deckbuilders, who ended up breaking the Storm mechanic, maximizing the potential of the Dragonstorm combo, and creating a dominating deck archetype that sometimes happened so fast that opponents had no response whatsoever. At 8 mana, it's expensive, but has no other drawbacks.

Shame that because of dragonstorm you can't feel good about putting this in any other deck. I think it would make a great finisher all by itself in a control deck but I can't recommend it because it is at its best as a combo piece.

Foul and effective. Always ways around costs. Flash is boss. Not much to dislike here. 4/5.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.

This card is likely referencing Shivan Hellkite.

How does a card being good as a combo piece make it less viable in another deck? The reason it's not viable (competitively) in a control deck is because it costs 8 mana and only functions as removal or a lightning axe on legs.
