Whenever I see this guy's art, I can't help but stare at the zit on his right cheek. Then, my eyes migrate up to his bizzare hat, and down to his beard... *shudder*

What does it say about Magic that one of the most iconic blue cards would never be reprinted in today's color pie? IT SAYS IT'S FRICKIN' AWESOME, that's what.

So strange that an identical card in red is rated over a full star lower.

@ people wondering why Prodigal Pyromancer is rated lower:

Cards translated to other colors are better or worse depending on how rare their effect is in that color. Cheap damaging effects are easy to come by in red, whereas they're much rarer in blue. However, I do think that this card is rated too highly for its power level, there's definitely a nostalgia bias going on here. Not that I mind though, Tim deserves it for the mark he's left on the game :).

Bad art (he looks more like a horribly dressed merchant/ golf player), bad flavour (do they mean that dealing damage is a worldly pleasure= he is a sadist, which he doesn't look like and he is blue).
However, never underestimate being able to slowly clear out all 1/1's or dmg the opponent every turn.

Why is he called "TIM"?

Because of "Tim the Enchanter" from Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Search that on YouTube, you'll understand.

@ Sironos:

Prodigal isn't really about worldly pleasure.

Prodigal
adjective
1 spending money or resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant
2 having or giving something on a lavish scale
noun
a person who spends money in a recklessly extravagant way.
• (also prodigal son or daughter) a person who leaves home and behaves in such a way, but later makes a repentant return.

@Shadows_Vengeance: The flavour text on the card:
Occasionally, members of the Institute of Arcane Study acquire a taste for worldly pleasures. Seldom do they have trouble finding employment.

I always thought "Prodigal".
As in, "Child Prodigy".

@kdraphael

His name is Tim because of Monty Pythons' quest for the holy grail. There is an enchanter on the movie named Tim. If you have not seen it you should. Your life is not complete without having completed this task at least once in your life.

I had the foil of this version where the eyes glow at the right angle. Very cool.
