I can't help but notice the lack of a forest here... best land art I've seen in a long time though.

I can't help but it really suits into an elf deck... like some secret town in a forest! :) (I know Ravnica is supposed to be a city-plane, but you know, I don't have just Ravnica forests)

It looks like just an ordinary building. Pretty, sure, but just a building. You enjoy it, relaxing as you take in the scenery. And then suddenly, an elf comes out of. And then he brings a buddy, and wasn't this complex smaller a moment ago? And then it grows again, and the elves bring in more elves. Suddenly, you find yourself alone, in a vast sylvan city, surrounded by dozens of elves. They do not seem happy to see you. They raise their swords and the glint of their steel is the last thing you ever see. And it was such an ordinary building...

Andrew's Occasional Random Card of the Day #16 - 7/13/2011 - Forest (Ravnica)
Basic land, huh? Up until now I had basically been ignoring which version of particular cards popped up in the random feature of Gatherer. But with Forest, I think I'll have to use the 'Ravnica' prompt.
Okay, so green. Green is generally the same thing across planes—that's kind of the point of the colors in general. But each plane does have its own settings, peoples, and twists on each color. On Ravnica, of course, exist ten guilds (or at least they did exist before Dissension), and four such guilds would appreciate Forests. The Ravnica lands are unique in that they depict cityscapes which still embody the color they are meant to represent. While it's not really a 'forest' here, it's still a Forest in Magic terms, in that it is a location on this plane that is the source of green mana.
One guild that uses green mana is the Gruul, but they live in the wastes, the least 'city-ified' part of Ravnica. Unless these are ancient abandoned ruins, I couldn't imagine that the Forest here is part of the Gruul wastes.
Another guild is the Simic. I don't see a drop of water or a single lab experiment, and I believe the Simic spend most of their time inside, with much less sun than we see here.
The Golgari live in the sewers and caves underneath the city, though I'm sure they've still got their cityish civilization down there. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is not their Forest.
Finally, the Selesnya are all about pretty forest places, balconies, and sunlight. I imagine that ray of sun is shining right down onto a Selesnya grove church.

Pretty much all the Ravnica forests are gorgeous, but this one definitely stands out as having a wonderful mix of filtered light, spires, and the foliage that envelops them all.

I disagree. All Ravnica forests look like Selesnya, but this one looks the oldest, so I say it's Gruul.

According to the Ravnica Guild Lands given out as MPS promos in 2006, this is the official Golgari Forest.
