Not worth the cost. The second ability is useless. The first ability isn't all that essential for black decks.

Cost effective for Limited, otherwise worthless.

At the same casting cost are creatures with Deathtouch as standard, not an activated ability.
Activated Deathtouch would be better with a higher power creature. Either that or have the second ability give a +1/+1 pump as well as give Deathtouch.

Well, ability one allows you to know ahead of time weather you should use the mana for the second ability. So at least it isn't making you reach blindly and waste mana doing it. Decent equipment or aura's make him playable.

No longer has Deathtouch.

Seriously, ever since M10 rulings Psuedo Deathtouch abilities are getting worse and worse each year. Thing is this HAD Deathtouch for 2 years.

If you're planning to play the Deceivers here's a tip, GET IN YOUR OPPONENT'S HEAD!
Lol keep 3-4 mana behind and have a look, see if it's a land, decide wether to attack or defend with it... Then let the mind games begin.

Of course if you have something like first strike and enhanced toughness this is a lot easier, try putting Veridian Claw on (for the first strike) or Accorder's Shield on (For the health and Vigilance) or similar.

Remember with these cards it's always good to have a back up plan, stop someone from putting counters on it or make it Indestructable.
Love the idea that there are cards that really can rattle the opponent if you're good at it.

I for one would like to see something similar put in place in a future set, make the game less about a particular build (I've seen Vampires, Goblins, Myr and Infect/Proliferation decks take the top spots in my area) and more about strategy and getting to know people's minds.

Not a bad card but certainly not great.

One of the best Deceivers, yet still terrible.

Deveivers would have been so much cooler if they just allowed you to peek at your top card like Sphinx of Jwar Isle.

But the whole concept for them was just way too costy.
A fate far too common for creatures - particularly spirits - from Kamigawa...
