This card was a *** earlier on in Magic.. That was before Artifacts were considered a serious threat.. Now, it would be better! Reocurring damage for 2 swamps can really be a solid investment. At least it's sideboard worthy if you're playing mono B, or including B..

One thing about the days of Beta: Lightning-quick games like present-day tournaments are visited (or, depending on your viewpoint, plagued) with weren't expected (Channel+Black Lotus+Disintegrate+Mountain genuinely wasn't quite anticipated on publication). As long as you had an appreciable defense (and they didn't have Circle of Protection: Black), this would be a way to gradually wear them down with minimal fuss.
