One of the most efficient and cruel creatures ever printed on its own, Dark Ritual made this card stupidly powerful, which was why it was removed after 4th edition. Without the Ritual the Hippy's seen some play but not as much as during it's heyday...

I like your thinking, Rainyday2012. This guy is very vulnerable. I mean, he dies to SHOCK.

He's seeing play in BR aggro now, but he's still a bit slow with all the removal floating about. Hyppie/Rit is still an effective first turn move in Legacy though (and will be in overextended if it ever comes to fruition. of course hyppie doesn't guarantee the win: that's what the turn 2 hymn, Wasteland or Sinkhole is for. This or Nighthawk will be your MBA/MBC 3 drop.

5/5 because of the reminder text. You would think that the reminder text wouldn't be needed, but you would be wrong...

What a lousy card. It dies to Lightning Bolt, it dies to Swords to Plowshares....
That's pretty dumb. Is Black Lotus a bad card because Disenchant gets rid of it? Is Tolarian Academy a bad card because Stripmine gets rid of it? Is every creature in the game without protection from white a bad card because Swords to Plowshares gets rid of it? Of course not.
Every card in Magic can be dealt with by one card or another.
This is a card that HAS to be dealt with as soon as it's played. No one wants to loose cards from their hand at random. Even decks that rely on graveyard interaction have to cast their Yagmouths Will or Regrow or whatever before the Specter steals it away. Even one successful attack with this guy can disrupt an entire game. You loose a land early on, or that card you just tutored for it's a real setback.
Obviously he looses some of his greatness in formats that don't allow Dark Rituals, but in any format hes a threat as soon as he hits the board.
Even if I have to wait until my third turn to play him, it's a win win situation no matter what my opponent does. If you don't have an answer for him in your hand, Im happy to have him hit you for a card turn after turn. If you do have some kind of removal for him and you get rid of him, well that's one less removal spell you have for my Juzam Djinn.
Sure it would be great if he cost Black to cast and was a 10/10 with trample and protection from red and protection from white and vigilance .... but he's not. and its still a great card.
