For a while, there was a tendency for White to get one or two 2/2 fliers with another decent ability for 4 mana in nearly every set; many of these were Griffins, like this one. This is better than most of them, with *two* "other decent abilities" - Vigilance, and an extra point of toughness. But even with that advantage, this card follows the same pattern as all such creatures - solid in Limited but nowhere near Constructed-worthy. The particular problem with this one is that, until its recent appearance in ME2, it was never in a format that had Limited competition on a regular basis.

What I don't understand why does making an online version of a card make it DCI legal in more formats than if it hasn't been released online.

@tavaritz: Because all those formats are online-only formats. (Okay, Commander is a bit weird on there.)
