Almost rivals Mountain Goat.

Teardrop Kami is in the same set, too.

Strange and simultaneously useless.

Strictly worse than storm crow.

Teardrop Kami and Dreamcatcher are both strictly better choices from the same cycle.
Name and artwork are amiable, dramatic flavor text isn't that bad either — but dang, nobody asked for a Fugitive Wizard for Spirit decks!

don't even need to compare to storm crow, useless and impracticable, but alright flavour
don't know why they printed it though

It's like Wizards said,

"You know what card everyone loved? Fugitive Wizard. How about we reprint that, except as a spirit?"
"Awesome idea! And while we're at it, let's add another {2} to the mana cost of Deathcurse Ogre."

The answer to the beggar's question could be one of two things:
1. He's lost his childhood innocence and has responsibility for his own actions. They won't help him now that he's guilty for his condition.
2. Simply due to the kami war, they aren't helping any humans.

Great flavor text. One of my all time favorites.

Sure, the card is subpar - vanilla 1/1 for 1 - but it's that vanilla status that gives them enough room to print flavour text that long.

I am in total agreement with the people praising the flavour text. It makes you just a little sad - and it's not often that a Magic card can evoke sadness.

I agree. That flavor text is......wow.

5'd just for flavor alone.

@Blackworm_Bloodworm, hes a beggar. first we must question his sanity, that these creatures even exist. Id say they don't, seeing as they are rather.. ridiculously shaped?

thumbs up for the wtf-form

@TheSwarm - They're spirits...they can manifest in whatever form they feel most comfortable.

@DysprosiumJudas - I'm not entirely sure on the comparison here...

Since Spirit is such a well supported "tribe" in Kamigawa (noway, right) a one-drop could be your first turn card. And the flavortext is pretty...sad?

I think I can say without exaggeration that this is my favorite card from Kamigawa. Sure, I've never, ever put him in a deck, but when I'm riffling through my blue commons and come across this guy, I pause to read the excellent flavor text. I mean, damn, it gets me every time.

And if you want to be snarky, it also has a reasonable cost for its stats, unlike the rest of the block's creatures. Zing!

The flavour text almost made me cry. I'm serious.

@TheSwarm: Your post shows a poor understanding of the setting, but, even more disturbingly, an unnerving biggotry against beggars. Why should beggars be any less sane than "normal" people? Because of their position in society and lack of success? By that "logic", shouldn't a peasant be less sane than a noble, even though the main antagonist of the block is a douchebag daimyo who led an expedition into the spirit world to steal a "part" of a god and dragged the whole world into a hopeless fight with this very same god?!? I mean, if those aren't actions indicative of impaired judgment, then what is? So don't *** flaunt your privilege and hold unreasonable assumptions about those "below you", you little shit.

Having read the flavor text, which is indeed excellent, I briefly thought that they were giving somebody the finger in the art.

This card holds a place in my heart. I'm actually glad this didn't have abilities. No words should share space with that flavor text.

Is it strictly worse than any number of blue one drops even within the same block? undeniably yes. Is this card more beautiful than 955 of all other magic cards? to me, absolutely.

I love this card. 5/5.

Wow.

That flavor text makes me so sad. It's beautifully written. I agree with Leshrac_Nightwalker in that not many cards do what this one does.

5/5 period.

I am so glad I have one of these.

Wow.

I can't really justify ever using this over Dreamcatcher, but I really, really want to.

Tragically, outclassed by not one, but two 1/1 Spirits for Blue at common in the Kamigawa block.

Which, I suppose, is indicative of the problems with the block in its entirety. The only thing worse than Kamigawa...is Kamigawa.
