WIth so many players using artifact heavy decks this is great for you people who love green decks anyway. Plus it fits well with beast decks.

why is there no salt on mirrodin...?

Unfortunately affinity decks will make you dead a few turns before you could cast this, but hey, you could get lucky once or twice.

Because the mountains don't contain minerals like normal mountains. They're made of rust and also in the seas is no salt since they consist of quicksilver.

Even considering that there's no salt on the plane, you'd think that the Slug would die from dehydration and heat considering the plane has no real water (not that I can remember at least) and has 5 suns... I wonder what they drink and eat on Mirrodin anyway - steel burgers with rust-bacon flushed down with an oil-shake?

They are animated robots, in a fantastic world, why should we care if they drink water ? I mean it's a fantastic story.

As silly as it sounds, a lot of people were really upset that this creature lacked the "Slug" type when it was originally printed. Seriously, they were up in arms, there were multiple threads on the forums about it.

Scolly Hag 3RedRed
Creature - Hag Beast
Whenever an artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, Scully Hag deals damage to its controller equal to its converted mana cost.
"The sexual tension just oozes between them."

If the player that owns the card doesn't have any artifact to sacrifice at his/her turn, what happens?

@ mitotic: then you poop yourself and your eyes fall out... nah, nothing happens, that old slugger just waits for the next artifact to hit play to satisfy his munchies ^^

If a player doesn't have an artifact to sack, then they don't do anything. Of course, if this is your opponent, on their upkeep you could tap Liquimetal Coating and essentially force them to sack anything you want.

You can also use Naturalize and other targeted artifact destruction to force them to sack an indestructible one, if it's their only choice.

How could the living inhabitants of mirrodin survive without salt?

Why would there be salt on an all-metal plane, guys? Seriously tho, it's one of the best flavor texts out there, along with Kith Ape and Goblin Test Pilot, among others.
