a conditional 3/3 flyer for 3 is pretty good in the right deck.

This card wins me so many games with my cat-equipment deck I can't believe its rating is only 2*! It's not just a conditional 3/3 flyer for 3...

Give it something as lowly as Leonin Scimitar and it's a 4/4 flyer.
Bonesplitter: 5/3 flyer.
Loxodon Warhamnmer: 6/3 flyer with Trample + Lifelink
Sword of Light and Shadow: 5/5 flyer with Pro W/B and various awesome effects

As long as you have some way of protecting the equipments, such as Leonin Abunas, then you're golden!

One of the worst "equip matters" cards. A bit bad in casual (compared to Kitesail Apprentice, especially), but not below 1.5/5.

Great card for sealed. I am surprised it is rated so low. Toss a Bonesplitter on to it and you have a 5/3 flyer, possibly already swinging on the 4th turn.

I guess Kitesail Apprentice compared to this does show how powerlevel on creatures has increased over the years (whether you wish to call that "power creep" or "Wizard's increasing emphasis on creatures over spells" is up to you; I choose the latter): If Kitesail could be a 1/1 for 1 with an extra ability, I'd expect this guy to be a 2/2 for 2. Times have changed for my creature friends.

Fine card. I mean, it's better than Pearled Unicorn right off the bat, and that wasn't the worst card in the world to begin with, so how bad can this be, right?

Plus, it actually kicks some pretty mean butt when it's equipped. Then again, so do most creatures. Limited hero, constructed reject.
