On the plus side, I like the flavor of the card. Is it just me, or is there a lot of the Urza/Gerrard/Mirri/Hanna etc. saga directly printed and quoted on magic cards? Maybe that was just a phase Magic went through, but I think mentioning story characters goes a long way towards adding truly memorable characters to the game.
I've never even read the storyline here, but at least it makes me want to learn more. I suppose they stopped doing that so much because it would be confusing to new players.

Have your opponent gain the life, and then use Needlebite Trap for . it's a Drain Life for 5 at a cost of (and not the usual ) without needing all that black mana.

@themisna: Or you could use an Oust to trigger the Needlebite Trap, have them net a two life loss, gain five yourself, and get rid of one of their creatures for the next few turns.
