I found my first one in some rich collectors extras, he threw it in, no problem, just a common, right? A few years later I've got people calling me the Whispersilk Cloak guy, as I swing with a shrouded, unblockable 24/24.
One of my favourite equips and I'm just sad they switched out the art in M10.

I honestly love this card. Man, What I wouldn't give to have a playset. I have two of these versions, but I would rather have the new ones.

I use this with Arcbound crusher My artifact deck allows me lots of mana with Mana Echoes and Myr Matrix I can protect my best creature Arcbound Crusher with it.

I actually bought a HUGE box of cards of a guy two weeks ago, and there were so many cards I didn't know where to start! He had them all organized by color, , , , , , a Mirrodin block box, Artifacts, Multicolored, Land, and Rares. Oh man! I Seriously barely finished going through them all a couple days ago! There are seriously like 20 of these version of Whispersilk Cloak in the Mirrodin box. Man there were so many good cards in there! I swear to god if I knew all of you I would just give you guys a couple.

You'd only have to part with 4 dollars and a trip to your local card store at most, U-caster.

My buddy heard me saying that I wanted to get some more Whispersilk Cloaks, and he tossed me 6 of this version and 2 of the new. Gotta say, these see a lot more play(in sleeves ofcourse) than my new ones. Love the artwork

The whispersilk cloak is a good piece of equipment. Its equip cost is cheaper than its casting cost, which is unusual (its usually the other way around). It can be moved around easily, and is great for both offense and defense. Since the creature is unblockable, the obvious use for this would be to put it on a fatty and smash your opponent. It can also be put on a powerful utility card or with some other nasty ability, like a Wellwisher, so my opponent's life total can skyrocket to undefeatable levels and I can't do anything about it unless I remove the cloak first! This card can take any creature you control and win the game for you, even a 1/1 if enough turns elapse and you can hold off your opponent for that long.
The shroud does cause some controller problems though. Since it can't be targeted by the controller (its shroud not hexproof), it can't be further equipped or enchanted. You would have to remove the cloak first, buff your creature, re-equip the cloak and hope your creature doesn't get murdered in response. And of course, you can't slap on a giant growth while your creature is equipped.
And it is a piece of equipment, which means it takes up a slot in your deck (for potentially more creatures with synergy or other useful spells) , and it needs a creature to equip. There is nothing more frustrating than late-game after a hellish match with a burn or counter deck when you have 15 lands and you just can't get that creature to stay on the field and survive being equipped. I'm against equipment in general unless you build a deck around them.
As far as powerful equipment, I much prefer Loxodon Warhammer. But this on a creature already equipped with a Loxodon Warhammer just makes it so much worse!
