Shattered Crypt has been obsoleted by Death Denied, but back in the day it was a good way to refill your hand with fuel before/after attacking with a Skyshroud Vampire, and even then I wouldn't play more than 2. Still recommended because it's painted by Gary Leach, which is an awesome illustrator, and for depicting Crovax.

Would be great if it didn't have the {X} in its cost and just caused you to lose twice X life. Like:
"Return any number of creature cards from your graveyard to your hand. You lose twice that much life."
