Well, amplify is better the smaller the creatures casting cost, and this is one of the amplify creatures with the smallest converted manacost.
If you have 4 zombies on your hand when you play it, it's a 6/6 on turn three. Sure, you lose some life when you attack, but your opponent will either lose more when he doesn't block, or loses creatures constantly.
It's not a great creature (or average) but might be worth it in an aggressive zombie deck.

Probably one of the worst creatures in the game. It's either 3 mana for a 2/2 and the only thing making it alright is the amplify, but if you amplify it more than 3 times, it does more damage to you than you're doing. If it's 2 times, it's equal. It's horrid.

Use Necropotence to draw loads of zombies, buff this guy enormously and then not have enough life left to attack or block with it! Yeah for a common that can be a 6/6 on turn 3 he's fine. I agree that lifelink is the way to go if you're really concerned.

One of the WORST creatures in the game? Really??? I mean, he's really not that GOOD, but for a casual zombie deck or limited, he's fine.
