Overcosted. Halving the cost would make this good.

In today's game, yes, this is too expensive. When it was released, it was actually a decent card, since there were not a lot of ways to have your creatures do direct damage at that time. The beauty of this card was that it was colorless, which opened up options for colors other than to do some direct damage. The game tended to be much slower back then, so you could spend on this sort of thing and actually have several turns to use it. Artifacts were actually somewhat rare back then, unlike today. This card now is only valuable for the nostalgia it creates.

I could see this being reprinted the Innistrad block. It so wouldn't break standard could be really good with morbid in limited

Obsolete. Now only good in Retro Backdraft.
