Ironically, Coc{}kroaches are Squee's favourite food.

@Flavour text: Wow, somebody REALLY doesn't like ***roaches. They're really not that bad, though.

Could I please find out why this card (and Squee, Goblin Nabob) are considered so much better than the common Mortis strider? Is it just the mono-color mana cost?

If I need a repeatably sacrificeable creature, why not trade for reassembling skeleton? it may enter tapped but doesn't really matter taking into account why it is there, so the cheaper cost really pays off I think..

A reprint of this card alongside Endrek Sahr was just asking for someone to figure out adding Phyrexian Altar would win them almost any game. Glad they added flavor text to this gem, but it will never beat the flavor text of Visions' Brood of ***roaches.
@Kariuko Normally, the skeletons are better, but since EDH has a one of each only rule these guys are a decent alternative to go alongside them. Now if you consider that Endrek Sahr comes with Prossh's deck as well it makes more sense, Sahr's ability only triggers when you cast a creature rather than put one into play. Skeletons are better for sacrificing, but they will only trigger Sahr's token spawn once, and repeatedly spawning a 1/1 roach and three 1/1 thrull's for 3 mana is in fact, cheaper than playing the two mana skeleton for a 1/1 and two 1/1 tokens and then repeatedly paying two mana for a 1/1 by itself. So without Sahr, Skeleton is the better choice, but with Sahr the roaches become the better choice.
@FogGuy Squee can be discarded from your hand and never see play, but he will come back, the mortus strider and roaches MUST be played and die to return to your hand, so Squee can nullify an opponent's black discard or the downsides of cards like merfolk looter/goblin rummager. As for why this card is a rare and Mortus Strider is not I'm guessing it's because Dimir colors usually don't have as much use for sacrifice as a mono black card that could fit into a wider variety of EDH decks would.

In order to compete with Reassembling Skeleton, effects that trigger when you cast a creature will be necessary.
Or, y'know, the fact that you're only allowed one skeleton in your 99-card main deck.
