5/5 for flavor- 3.5/5 for the card itself. A good introduction for new players to graveyard recursion, but not very good at it.

Bad in constructed but can really be a role-player in a limited deck.

Decent card. But the necromancer quote seems really forced. Like they're trying to figure out why he dies doing his job.

Black Goblin piker with upside is good, I think. Will pick.

At first i wondered why he'd die from throwing that corpse you wanted, then i read the flavor text.

Sheldac, you idiot! I told you to make him get that corpse for me - i never told you to kill him after doing so!

I like how the flavor text helps to describe why you have to sacrifice him to get the effect. That being said, Entomber Exarch is probably better and more abusable for this type of effect however, a 2/1 for 1 with upside is always going to be a fine man in limited and this upside has the potential to be very powerful. There are also cards that do stuff when creatures die like Grave Pact and Harvester of Souls that have good synergy with this.

Ok in limited, sucks otherwise. The main problem is the mana cost of its activated ability. Normally, you want to sacrifice such creatures in respond to removal. "You want to shock my guy? I sac him in response". But it's very unlikely that a black deck has three mana around at all times for that.

It's also just too expensive in general. A raise dead does the same and costs one mana instead of a total of five, that you have to pay here for the effect.

I'd always play cadavre imp over this. Only two power, but it does the whole job for three mana and can keep attacking, with evasion, while you already got the card back from the gy. Gravedigger is superior too. Costs two more, but is in total still cheaper than this guy, and you always get the creature card back (unlike this guy, which, when killed when you have no three mana around, doesn't give you anything). And it's also a zombie, so it gets buffed from all sorts of zombie cards.

So, 1.5/5 from me, for a crappy gravedigger.

"Bad in constructed", "Ok in limited, sucks otherwise"?

Didn't know there were so many people here that have never heard of pauper, huh.

Early game this guy works well with Xathrid Necromancer especially if you have 2 Corpse Haulers...an unlimited blocker and every time you sac him you get a 2/2 zombie. Late game just use him to get your big creature out of the graveyard. Not a bad card for a common.

Anyone else realize how good this can be with Xathrid Necromancer? Two of these guys and the Necromancer creates a repeatable Zombie token engine.

Meh. Why couldn't he have tapped instead of being sacrificed to activate his ability? As he is, I definitely prefer Doomed Necromancer to him.

Also, the flavour text is really bad and forced, as others have commented. It brings up two questions in my mind: First of all, why is he killing him? I'd expect that it is hard to find people who are willing to desecrate graves and haul corpses, so why is he willing to destroy this valuable asset? This isn't a question of goodness, it's a simply a question of practicality! Also, secondly, why is his blade made out of silver? That's a really bad, not to mention expensive, metal to make a weapon out of, and it's definitely not a good idea to use it against anything other than a werewolf or similar.

Why would you kill him, Shelac? Don't you want him to keep bringing you corpses? Darn stupid evil necromancers...
