"Worse than Nighthawk" is about as insulting as "Worse than Mike Tyson."
This has its place in limited, and it's always nice to see lesser-used creature types get some love.

Love the art. Think of it as a not broken Nighthawk.

It is a ***atrice therefore it should get 5 stars I just hope people don't take sharpies to it.... Remember Giant ***roach

A nice toolbox card for Limited, but not beefy enough for me to pick it early. Solid 5th-8th pick.

I wonder if this will be viable in MBC in Pauper. No Nighthawk of course, bu this is still excellent in Limited, and potentially viable in pauper. Wish it cantripped or something though.

@Doaj Damn, son, now we're comparing it to Baleful Strix? That's not even fair.

If it was only blue, then we could talk about how close it is to Storm Crow.

Nighthawk haters. Please. This is good design, though.

Ain't no Nighthawk, but this still trades with a lot of things and has some solid evasion.

WotC's way of telling the makers of the ***atrice program to get wrecked.

I would have prefered the creature type Dragon Bird, but a Cóckatrice is fine too.
(Although, if they ever were to print a card with that type combination, it would probably be Bird Dragon.)

I was hoping for better art. :/ Still, it's not BAD art...just...not fantastic enough either :P
Some of these days I am going to make a Basilisks and ***atrices Deck =)
Also, 10:1 says this card somehow gains 1% of relevance once Theros comes out. In fact it might even somehow become 'as good as' or BETTER than Nighthawk. I do not know how. But I think that anything with an unsupported-but-awesome creature type in M14 should be treated as a clue for Theros. @.@

Great for limited. Too slow/weak everywhere else.

@ DarthParallax: It quite seems that Theros has a "greece mytology" theme, so maybe it could have something like a ***atrice Lord... I think it should be appropriate! Also, the art is great, I think... Not epic, but not everything needs to be super-fantastic! This one is clear and to the point!
It reminds me a little of Keening Banshee: both 2/2 flying for that can kill something. Both can be a nice card, without being that nonsense of Nighthawk...

I've been spoiled with Nighthawk in Limited for so long, I almost thought this card was a waste of time. This card is actually pretty damn good in Limited.

I am glad that WotC has realised the error of its ways and is trying to atone for the creation of the abomination known only as Vampire ***hawk.
@Mode: A ***atrice is neither a bird nor a dragon, so why would they do that? Not to mention that dragons are a rare creature type in Black, especially at this mana cost.

Fun, if not incredibly powerful. It's like a Murder that sits and dares, not needing to target.

Alright, I was way too hard on this card out the gate. for a 2/2 flyer is fair, and adding for deathtouch is about right. seems like a better cost than in this case, but what can you do? Sure, this is far worse than Nighthawk, but Nighthawk is far better than he needed to be. 3.5/5
If it's CMC was 3 instead of 4, it would probably see more play from me. But that little extra cost can make all the difference.

Flying and Deathtouch, can't go wrong with that. It's fairly cheap and makes your opponents wary of attacking you once they know you'll just take out their strongest creature with a 2/2.

Hello folks; don't laugh, I am more than I seem I'm just a monster come to get you from your nightmares and dreams So don't run, don't scream, just look into my eyes And feel the coldness taking over as I suck out your life
You can't escape; I will find you and I'll turn you to stone With a soul-crushing gaze that shakes you right to your bone So you can run and cry for help, but there's nowhere to hide I'm gonna stalk you to the end and leave your soul petrified

@tiggurix What Mode is talking about is how a ***atrice is born; it is born of bird parents - typically chicken but not exclusively - that has an egg incubated by a dragon (or frog/snake if you don't tens to believe in such things). Of course this makes as much sense as centaurs being typed Human Horse, or merfolk being Human Fish, but still, he is correct that the cocatrice is part dragon, part bird
