mind blowingly overpowered. compare to diabolic tutor, a solid enough card in its own right

I couldn't agree more with RIthrim. This card is a must have in any deck that can cast it. It even comes before Dark Ritual as 'must have' in mono black.

Wow, this is the first time I've seen a card here on Gatherer with a perfect score! And with good reason!

It was art like that the art used for this card that made Christian groups rise up in arms. Putting pentagrams on cards is a good way to weed out a lot of potential players and lead many to focus on dumb ancillary issues instead of what Magic: The Gathering offers: creative deck-building, sound strategy, a developed sense of rules, and a means by which awkward teens can interact with each other without having to use a computer. That's just my opinion.

As much as I think that religious beliefs don't bestow entitlement, pentagrams really have no place on Magic cards. I'd prefer that the game didn't borrow directly from real world sources (as in Arabian Nights, for example).

Unfair. This is all about Black philosophy.

Red burn spells try their hardest to be your Lightning Bolts #5-8. Most fail.
Demonic Tutor is your anything #2-5. Words fail.

This is not a winning card, but it is also every winning card you could ask for.

There is a reason this isn't legacy legal, it's overpowered as hell.
