It prevents the loss of life, which allows for the preventing of playing costs that require life loss. I don't get why WotC changed this to "prevent the next 2 damage". the two are totally different.

I agree - there should be cards that prevent loss of life.

Requiring this to tap and limiting the scope of its power made this card have much less utility than it had before the "error"ta.

This was a mono artifact, so it was always supposed to be tapped...
