The ability is actually quite useful for dwarves given how small most of them are. But between the 'sacrifice Heart Wolf' clause, the fact it's not a dwarf itself and the general lack of dwarf decks in general, it's relegated to interesting oddity. Although there just may be some interesting uses for it after Eventide...

Now if only I could find some dwarfs to use this with.......

Throat Wolf is still better. Firstest Strike is so broken...

I like how the rulings now say "When that creature leaves play" rather than "if" they do. It makes it sound like that Dwarf's death is inevitable....

I never noticed until now that they forgot to capitalize "heart" in the card name.
I also tried to build a dwarf tribe deck back when Homelands first came out. You can scrape together enough cards for it, but they were all so underwhelming that there was really nowhere to go.

@ longwinded: They didn't forget to capitalize it, that's just how capital H's look in the font they use for card names.

Am I mistaken, or does this creature have no flavour connection to Dwarves whatsoever?

If there ever was a tribe more abused than Dwarves, I haven't met it... except maybe for Kobolds. Horrible!

In Homelands, a 4 mana 2/2 first striker with a conditional tribal pump ability was considered a rare.
Oh you, Homelands.

@Stray_Dog: Looking at the background, the dwarves rode these into battle. kinda like the Uruk-Hai on their Wargs.
Therefore, the mount transfers all its power (+2/+0 and First Strike) to its rider, but if the dwarf falls in battle, the wolf gets killed as well.
Actually very flavorful.
Just utterly useless as dwarves are a forgotten tribe, just like orks.

You can tell who the real Magic oldtimers are if they get the reference to the elusive Throat Wolf. :-)
And I thought the Throat Wolf wasn't actually about Firstest Strike, but actually allowed you to attack during your opponent's turn... or was it a blue wolf that turns enchantments into creatures...

I'm disappointed that gatherer doesn't have a page for Proposal, 1996 World Champion, Splendid Genesis or a number of other "one-off" cards. It's so comprehensive otherwise.
And yes, I chose the "Throat Wolf" page to say this.
