It's a very underrated card, you can get your deck thinned, reach threshold, creatures to reanimate and have your lands. I used this in my domain reanimator deck (2001) alongside with Life/Death with great results.

I played the same r/g mongrel beats deck through odyssey and onslaught block, and i'm just noticing this now. It could have been helpful to get cards into the graveyard and thin your deck at the same time. I wonder why I never playtested it.

Could be nice with Knight of the Reliquary if you have some way to pitch the rest of those lands into the grave yard.

Run with Manabond- Drop Manabond turn 1, turn 2 discard all nonland cards in hand to the Rites, end of turn play all the lands, then use them to flashback/ unearth the cards you discarded.

Actually, it IS a good way to get rid of basic lands. Use this, grab a bunch more lands, planar birth your way to 6-10 mana on t3. Amulet of vigor can turn that into a nightmare. Fatties, spendy land destruction, or whatever; I could see a deck working with an obscene amount of land and that, mostly based on the idea that doing that means you've cleared all those "extra" land cards you stuck in and then some. You'll need some kind of card filtering and such, but I could see this combo working well; especially combined with any other ramps like Exploration or Gaea's Touch

Seems like it needs a very particular deck.

It could be effectively used to discard basic lands if say you are running all 5 colors and you don't have the color you need.

Useful when you realize that you have too many high cost creatures in your deck. But that's your own damn fault.

Really, there's very little reason *not* to discard your basic lands to this card, especially if you're looking to hit threshold or otherwise take advantage of land in your graveyard. You get them back right away, after all.
But even without any other reason to do it, thinning your deck for the mid to late game when you want to draw spells, not land, is good. Not good enough to run it if you aren't already, but a good enough reason to cast it if you are.
